First Edition
1st edition. 4to. Two volumes, pp. xii+398, pagination continuous. 1936 was important for two reasons. It marked the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, and the publication of this work, the most complete general bibliography of erotic literature yet attempted, listing over 5000 separate works. Until the publication of Kearney's The Private Case in 1981, it was the only guide to the erotica holdings of the British Museum Library. It is still of value, however, for information on the books in other collections, including the Vatican. This edition was limited to 200 hand-numbered copies, printed on hand-made paper. Please note: Oversized volumes: this set will require additional shipping for destinations outside the US; we will ship at cost. Original black cloth, leather labels, gilt, t.e.g. Some bumping to corners, and slight rubbing to spine labels along edge, otherwise a very good copy.
