The pages are browned with some spotting and marking in places and there are one inch pieces torn from the bottom corners of two pages. Rear cover is detached and has some loss along the top, a half-inch wide strip missing from the bottom four inches of the right hand side, a three inch closed tear running up from the bottom edge. There are heavy tape marks along the top and the right hand side and to the reverse. The spine is worn with a little chipping at the top and bottom. The front cover has a one inch long triangular piece missng from the bottom right hand corner, quite heavy surface creasing, a tape mark along the right hand side and the reverse and a little staining to the top edge of the reverse. Page edges browned with some curling to the bottom corners. Some staining to the edges of the pages at the rear, damp staining to the top of the pages at the front and a small closed tear in the top edge of page 9 but otherwise the pages are unmarked. The price-clipped jacket has a little chipping at the top and bottom of the spine with a one inch closed tear to the top right corner of the rear panel. No date on this but it is the 1953 first paperback edition of a book previously published as a hard cover in 1946 under the author's true name, Stephen Frances. I believe this is the second printing with the cover for Woman Trap on the rear cover - there is another version of this with an earlier publication, Desert Fury, on the rear cover. The spine has a piece of tape over it and on the outer edges of the front and rear panels - this is peeling off but it is still firmly attached to the spine and the surface of this is lifting from the text block so I think the tape will be difficult to remove without causing more damage. Front cover has two heavy vertical creases and a price stamped to the centre. Light surface and edge wear to the rear cover. Covers are pulling away from the text block but two strips of tape have been fixed across the inside of the front cover and the edge of the first page. Rusty marks around the staples at the front and back. Pages are a little worn with some spotting to the edges and on the first page. Quite rare in any edition. Reginald Heade cover but not one of his best!

It lists the same titles on the rear cover but the arrangement is in one column rather than two and under 'Specials' 'Persian Pride' does not have 'in preparation' under it. The front cover has a some heavy surface creasing to the left third and along the top light edge and also has a crease to the bottom corner and a small chip to the top edge. The rear cover also has quite a bit of creasing and some staining to the bottom edge. The pages are browned rusty staples, some staining around the bottom of the last three pages, some corner creasing and a small red mark to page 7 but are otherwise unmarked. Heavy staining to the inside of the rear cover. Some staining also to the inside of the front cover. The first page has two book shop stamps, a price in ink, the previous owner's name and a date and some staining around the bottom. The final page also has a little staining. A little edge creasing, chipping and browning to the pages which are otherwise clean and unmarked. Very rare.

Some edge creasing and discolouration to the rear panel which also has a one inch tear with some loss to the top right hand corner and a one inch closed tears to the bottom right hand corner. The first and last pages have tape marks to the top and bottom corners. The pages are a little browned with some creasing to the top corners but otherwise reasonably clean and unmarked. Staples slightly rusty. Binding tight. First printing.
