Die strengere äsopische Fabel ist mit Parabeln und Erzählungen des ähnlichen Inhalts wegen untermischt (Vorrede). Die 550 Fabeln stammen aus den Bereichen Toleranz, Religion, Aufklärung, Freiheit, Weisheit, Sünde, Heuchelei, Liebe und Güte, Bescheidenheit, Selbstgefühl, Ehre, Achtung, Neid, Schicksal, Klugheit und Verstand.
