A scarce first edition with attractive Wharfedale provenance. Paper covered boards in near overall fair condition; front board detached; rear board very tender; small booksellers label to front pastedown reads 'Matthew's and Brooke Bradford'. Text block age toned, holding well. Front pastedown reveals that the volume once belonged to and 'must be returned to the Rectory at Bolton Abbey' and is signed 'A P Howes' - Alfred Plumpton Howes; frontispiece illustration of a 'View of Otley'; a lovely letter sent by Rev Wm Abrahams of St Mark's Vicarage, Manningham Bradford is laid in which contains a handwritten poem which begins 'Deep amid the Bolton Woods'. 91pp. A culturally important artefact of the history of Wharfedale in West Yorkshire encompassing the region's natural beauty, local towns, villages, rivers, hills, forests, folklore and rural agriculture.
