Add to basketThe nominal taxon Clausilia portensis rested in synonymy during most of the 20th century. On the basis of samples in the Locard collection in Paris, dating from the 19th century, it is considered here to denote the sister species of Macrogastra (Pseudovestia) rolphii. More recently collected material is unknown. 5 pp., 5 figs, gr. 8.…

Add to basketOur knowledge concerning taxonomy and zoogeography of the fossil and recent species of the helicid genus Theba is summarized and enlarged. The fossil Theba arinagae spec. nov. is described from Gran Canaria. The recent Theba andalusica spec. nov. and Theba sacchii spec. nov. are described from the southernmost part of the Iberian peninsula and the southernmost part of Morocco, respectively. This implies that four fossil and ten recent Theba species are recognized. Two of the fossil species are very insufficiently known. Some recent species are polytypic, which results in 17 (sub)specific taxa in total. Neotypes are selected for Theba subdentata legionaria and Theba solimae. The nominate subspecies of Theba pisana is shown to be aberrant because of its very wide range; the other Theba (sub)species have much smaller ranges, situated in W. Morocco, Western Sahara, the southernmost part of the Iberian peninsula and some Atlantic islands. [Other species discussed include T. subdentata helicella, T. s. dehnei, T. s. subdentata, T. S. meridionalis, T. chudeaui, T. pisana cantinensis, T. p. arietina, T. p. ampullacea, T. p. pisana, T. macandrewiana, T. geminata, T. impugnata, T. grasseti]. 59 pp., 62 figs, br. gr. 8.…

Add to basketFrance is a country of extensive climatic and biogeographic diversity, which is reflected in the composition of its fauna. The present checklist recognizes 660 valid species-level taxa of land and freshwater molluscs, of which 180 are endemic; when subspecies are considered, 747 terminal taxa (species and subspecies) are present in the country, of which 233 are endemic. All the taxa listed have been either critically evaluated by the authors or included in the list based on state-of-the-art taxonomy in the published literature or expert knowledge from practising taxonomists. Considerable attention has been paid to the nomenclature of the taxa listed, and all new taxonomic and nomenclatural decisions are documented in extensive notes. The French distribution of every species is briefly characterized by reference to its occurence in standard biogeographic regions. An extensive bibliography contains references to ca. 3000 publications containing faunistical information on the land and freshwater molluscs of France. The present checklist ambitions to boost interest in the French continental molluscs, from mapping projects to taxonomical research and conservation. Outside France, it is bound to stand as an equally essential tool for taxonomists working on west Palearctic faunas. 350 pp., 9 figs, 1 map, br. 4.…
