Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition, Special Edition. Large quarto Saddle-stitched glossy wrappers 64 pages Artist's Book produced for Purple Fashion Magazine Issue No. 6 (Fall/Winter2006-2007) edited by Olivier Zahm A vivid artist-book style supplement presenting the fiercely expressive drawings, collages, and painterly fragments of New York-based artist Rita Ackermann. Produced for the influential Paris fashion and culture magazine Purple, the publication channels the raw immediacy of Ackermann's sketchbooks-layered figures, diaristic marks, and emotionally charged images of girls and women that blur the line between vulnerability, rebellion, and performance. Ackermann emerged in the 1990s downtown New York art scene, where her work became synonymous with a new visual language of female subjectivity and youth culture. Her drawings, often loose, fragmentary, and psychologically charged, capture a generation shaped by nightlife, fashion imagery, music, and the improvisational energy of the city. Good Morning New York embodies the moment when contemporary painting, underground publishing, and avant-garde fashion culture intersected, reflecting Purple magazine's unique role as a platform where artists, models, photographers, and designers shared the same visual terrain. An evocative artifact of the 2000s New York-Paris art and fashion nexus, and a compelling collectible for admirers of Ackermann's early work and experimental magazine publishing. Issued during a particularly influential period for Purple, the supplement reflects the magazine's unique intersection of contemporary art, fashion photography, and underground culture, making it a desirable crossover piece for collectors of artist books, fashion publishing, and early works by Ackermann. An evocative document of the mid-2000s New York-Paris creative milieu and example of the experimental publishing projects surrounding Purple Fashion.

Hardcover. Condition: New. A native of Hungary, Rita Ackermann moved to New York City in the mid-1990s. She arrived to find a culture (and art world) in transition: rave and zine culture was in full swing; collaborations between artists, musicians, and magazine and book publishers were pervasive; and the dawning of the Internet age was upon us. Within a few short months after settling in New York, the artist received widespread attention for her work, particularly a group of canvases populated with figures inspired by the cult German film We Children from Bahnhof Zoo about the heroin subculture of the 1970s. Her work forged a new visual language: paintings, drawings, and collages which telescoped between a virtuosoâ"and sometimes brutalisticâ"expressionism and taut, precise figurative drawing. Ackermann?s work explores the paradoxical relationship between fragility and violence, as she derives inspiration from literature, film, philosophy, and popular culture. This lavishly illustrated volumeâ"created in close collaboration with the artistâ"chronicles the entirety of her career. Bonnie Clearwater connects the artist to Eastern European art historical precedents and examines the evolution in her practice over the last twenty years. Felix Ensslin thoughtfully examines Ackermann?s work through a panoply of European theorists? writings, from Jacques Derrida to Jacques Lacan. Harmony Korine (famed writer of Kids) contributes an imagined conversation with the artist. John Kelsey explores the artist?s use of collage and its meaning in her body of work, and Josh Smith contributes a foreword, in the form of a personal letter.

Softcover. Condition: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 360 Seiten/pp., illustrated throughout - The street as a stage or site of creative action has acquired its own special role in art history: think of Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose work stemmed directly from street culture, or Mark Jenkins irritating pedestrians with his subtle infiltration of human-like sculptures, or the participatory installations of Kader Attia. Each of the 30 artists contributing to this bilingual German-English volume has found ways to weave art strategies into the fabric of street culture. Street and Studio focuses on the street as a zone of creativity, and as a source of inspiration to young artists whose lives and art are marked by an urban and mobile lifestyle.
