Originally published by Trident Press in December 1962, this is the first Giant Cardinal paperback edition issued by Pocket Books in 1963. It forms part of The Credo Series, planned and edited by Ruth Nanda Anshen, in which prominent scientists, philosophers, theologians, and political thinkers presented personal accounts of the ideas shaping their lives and work. Bibliographic sources confirm that the Pocket Books paperback followed the 1962 hardcover edition. Condition: Fair. Illustrated wrappers are heavily worn, with rubbing, scratching, creasing, edge wear, and chipping. A large triangular portion is missing from the upper-right corner of the front cover, with additional smaller losses along the upper edge. Spine is rubbed and creased, with wear at the extremities and some exposed or frayed binding material. Rear cover has rubbing, small stains, and corner wear. Pages are substantially age-toned, with scattered dampstaining and tide marks visible on the preliminary and title pages and along some margins.
