A complete 1901-1956 run of the Shropshire Archaeological Society"s Transactions, thirty-two serial volumes bound in twenty-eight, together with the 1924 Shrewsbury Burgess Roll. The Third Series is uniformly bound in half calf with marbled paper boards. The Fourth Series and subsequent volumes are uniformly bound in smart half navy morocco with cloth-covered boards by Morrell of London. A complete numbered run of the Society"s Transactions from Volume XXIV, 1901, through Volume LV, 1954-1956, comprising thirty-two numbered volumes bound in twenty-seven physical volumes. Also included is the separately published Shrewsbury Burgess Roll of 1924, bringing the collection to twenty-eight physical volumes. All are first editions of their respective annual or multi-year volumes. The volumes through 1924 were issued under the Society"s original name, the Shropshire Archaeological and Natural History Society. From 1925 onwards they were published by the Shropshire Archaeological Society. The Transactions contain extensive research into the archaeology, architecture, genealogy, heraldry, parish history, antiquities and natural history of Shropshire and the Welsh Marches, and are profusely illustrated with photographs, plans, maps, pedigrees and reproductions of historical documents. Compromising: Third Series, Volumes I-X, 1901-1910, being overall Volumes XXIV-XXXIII: Volume I, 1901, with three folding maps; Volume II, 1902, with a frontispiece and two folding maps; Volume III, 1903; Volume IV, 1904, with a large folding plan; Volume V, 1905; Volume VI, 1906; Volume VII, 1907; Volume VIII, 1908; Volume IX, 1909; and Volume X, 1910, with a large folding colour plan. Fourth Series, Volumes I-XII, 1911-1930, being overall Volumes XXXIV-XLV: Volume I, 1911, with a folding plan; Volume II, 1912; Volume III, 1913; Volume IV, 1914; Volume V, 1915; Volume VI, 1916-1917, with two maps, one folding; Volume VII, 1918-1919, with two colour plates; Volume VIII, 1920-1921; Volume IX, 1923-1924; Volume X, 1925-1926; Volume XI, 1927-1928; and Volume XII, 1929-1930. No volume was published for 1922. Later volumes, bound two serial volumes to each physical volume: Volumes XLVI, 1931-1932, and XLVII, 1933-1934; Volumes XLVIII, 1934-1935, with a frontispiece and folding plate, and XLIX, 1937-1938, with a folding map; Volumes L, 1939-1940, with a portrait frontispiece, and LI, 1941-1943; Volumes LII, 1947-1948, and LIII, 1949-1950, with three folding maps; and Volumes LIV, 1951-1953, with three folding maps, and LV, 1954-1956, with a folding plate. Collated, complete. Also present is 1924 The Shrewsbury Burgess Roll, abstracted and edited by H. E. Forrest and printed by W. B. Walker. An unusually substantial and smartly bound continuous run, offering more than half a century of detailed research into Shropshire and the Welsh Marches. The Third Series is uniformly bound in half calf with marbled paper boards. The Fourth Series and later Transactions are uniformly bound in smart half navy morocco with cloth-covered boards by Morrell of London. Ink stamping from Lincoln"s Inn Library to the odd endpaper. Fading to spines of 4th and 3rd series with slight rubbing and one or two chips to calf. Spine of 4th series vol IX more worn, with slight loss to calf and rubbing. The calf bindings of the Third Series are more aged, with the leather dry and friable, resulting in some powdering and colour transfer. Slight cracking to joints of volumes in the third series, more common to rear and predominantly to Volume VI, with slight lifting to the backstrip. Stamps of Lincoln"s Inn Library to the title pages and the odd page throughout, frequent to the verso of plates. One or two small closed tears to maps at points of extension. Very Good.
