Der Band zeigt, wie wichtig bilaterale 'Kanäle' im EG-Erweiterungsprozess waren und wie sehr Willy Brandt sich hierbei…persönlich für seine 'zweite Heimat' Norwegen eingesetzt hat. Mit Willy Brandt als Außenminister und Bundeskanzler wuchs das Vertrauen zwischen der Bundesrepublik Deutschland und Norwegen enorm. Gemeinsame Interessen rückten in den Vordergrund. Während die Regierung Brandt-Scheel hoffte, skandinavische Unterstützung für ihre Ostpolitik zu finden, setzte Norwegen auf Bonner Hilfe in den EG-Beitrittsverhandlungen. Das Verhältnis beider Länder hatte bald den Charakter einer 'special relationship'. Auch das Scheitern des norwegischen Beitritts im Jahr 1972 und Brandts Rücktritt 1974 konnten das gute Verhältnis der beiden Staaten zueinander nicht mehr beschädigen. Ein Durchbruch war geschafft. Ausgezeichnet mit dem Willy-Brandt-Preis 2007 der Bundeskanzler-Willy-Brandt-Stiftung.
