MARTIN, Brian P. - ROBJENT, Richard. Sporting Wildfowl of the British Isles: Studies in Words and Pictures. Holt, Norfolk: Fine Sporting Interests Limited, 1999. Folio (12 4/8 x 9 4/8 inches). Original watercolour drawing frontispiece of a pair of Goldeneye, sepia watercolour of a Pintail to the colophon, both signed by the artist Richard Robjent lower right, 35 colour plates after Robjent tipped-in, illustrated with sepia vignettes throughout. Publisher's deluxe binding of blue morocco, gilt, all edges gilt (AS NEW); preserved in original blue morocco backed, clue cloth clamshell box (lower corner bumped). Limited issue, number 19 of 35 copies signed by the author and artist with an original watercolour frontispiece and deluxe binding, of a total edition of 350. Preface: "As the first season of the new millennium dawns the sun will rise over the foreshore, the tide will turn, duck and geese will come and go and men will try to shoot them, just as they have done for centuries. Indeed, in a few favoured places on the margins of 'civilisation' the shooter could still witness the same magical marshland scene that his ancestors saw thousands of years ago. Admittedly he must now hunt with all the encumbrances of sophisticated society draped around his shoulders and no longer depends on the meat he procures, but how important this last link with wilderness is to 21st-century man".
