The Dutch scientific exploration expedition sent out in 19041905 by the Royal Netherlands Geographical Society with the aim of mapping the completely unknown interior of southwestern New Guinea and attempting to reach the 'eternal snow' that had been observed on the peaks of the central highlands from a Dutch ship as early as the 17th century.
