First Edition Signed
Pamphlet. Condition: Near fine. An Evening with Ronald Reagan, June 6, 1965, at Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. Inscribed by Ronald Reagan to the recipient of the Carnegie Medal Award on the laid in broadside, a copy of "I Do Not Choose To Be A Common Man" by Dean Alfang (illustrator). First Edition. Octavo, [16pp]. Printed wraps, bound at the spine with staples. Includes the program schedule and numerous advertisements for local businesses. Inscribed on the laid-in broadside with: "Congratulations Mary Sears Rhodes / Ronald Reagan." Mrs. Mary Sears Rhodes was honored for saving a fellow student from drowning when she was 14 years old, which was a familiar story to Reagan. The year before this speech in Fort Worth, at the 1964 Republican National Convention, Ronald Reagan delivered his famous "A Time for Choosing" endorsement of Barry Goldwater. Reagan's address emphasized the principles of limited government, individual freedom, and the dangers of an overreaching federal government. Reagan's speech not only galvanized conservative support for Goldwater but also marked the beginning of Reagan's rise as a prominent political figure, leading to his election as the Governor of California in 1967. Signed.
