Softcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Small Quarto Size [approx 17.5cm x 24cm]. MINT - a NEW book. xvii, 450 pages. Sir Richard Baker's role in the establishment of the government of Australia and as the Australian Senate's first President (1901â"06) was particularly significant. Independently wealthy, Eton and Cambridge educated, and a lawyer, Baker was of a South Australian political family, and his career in South Australian politics was not without incident. The notoriously hot-headed Charles Cameron Kingston once challenged him to a duel. And they both rubbed shoulders and were instrumental in the creation of an Australian legislature. Here, Rosemary Laing, the Senate's 13th Clerk, recounts Baker's life and career in politics, highlighting his contribution to the making of the Australian Constitution and his grand finale in the Senate, where he strove to ensure the Senate fulfilled its constitutional promise.

Healesville : Tarrawarra Museum of Art, 2017. Oblong folio, illustrated boards, pp. 92, illustrated. Essays by Victoria Lynn and Judy Annear. Catalogue of an exhibition held at TarraWarra Museum of Art, Healesville, 2 December 2017 - 11 February 2018. 'Rosemary Laing is a renowned Australian artist who has worked with photography since the late 1980s. This exhibition includes major works that demonstrate her interest in how Australians have both perceived and moved through the landscape, shifting between dramatic vistas in works such as the leak and one dozen unnatural disasters in the Australian landscape series, through to her interventions in the thickest of bushland in The Paper and groundspeed series. Colonisation, political borders and boundaries, and the interface of the built and natural environment are persistent themes explored in the exhibition which will also feature a new series of works.' - TarraWarra Museum website.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Two issues of this superbly produced magazine of art and architecture published in Spain. Each about 400 pages, text mostly in Spanish but with much in English as well. Many photographs and reproductions in color and black and white, truly a dense and deep publication. In excellent condition for the most part, with some bumping at the corner tips in parts of both at the bottom and slightly larger bump to the upper corner of about 1/2 of issue 4, still not effecting the text or images much. Issue 4 has a little bump about the spine edge which does not effect the binding whatsoever. Minor sun fading to spine of both issues. Some light scuffs and scratches to the covers of both but hardly so and in clean presentable condition. Oddly both covers present the number of the previous issue, so that issue 3 has the number 2 on the front and issue 4 has the number 3. The theme of number 3 is "habitacion / room" and the theme of number 4 is "casa / house." Issue 3 contributors are Colexio Oficial de Arquitectos de Galicia Craig Kalpakjian, Erwan Bouroullec, Pablo Gallego Picard, Ronan Bouroullec, Erwan Bouroullec, Rosemary Laing, Robin Evans, Mary Lucier, Michael Rakowitz, Casey Mack, María Asunción Salgado de la Rosa, Larry Sultan, Mathias Goeritz, Juan Creus Andrade, Chus Pato, Anxos Romeo, Estevo Creus, Yolanda Castaño, Marco Aristògatoff Issue 4 contributors are Thomas Roma, Jonas Dahlberg, José Manuel Gallego Jorreto, Jorge Pardo, Claus Carstensen, Jes Vagnby, Erik Nielsen, Maria Papadimitriou, Yorghos Tzirtilakis, Isidro Blasco, Fernando Quesada López, Holger Klein, Pamela Theodora, Bobby Baker, Herme Ciscar, Mónica García, Tanja Jordan, María Fullaondo Buigas de Dalmau, Txuma Sánchez, Santiago Alba Rico
