We grade this copy only fair plus because there is fraying to cloth at spine ends and corners. The pictorial label has a little rubbing. Not issued in a printed jacket. No prior owner markings. Originally issued as individual lessons at premium prices in the mid to late 1940s, then in 1961 re-issued as a bound book by Louis Tannen. Some readers today are only familiar with the book in its abominable re-issue by D Robbins, successor to Louis Tannen, Inc., with cheap binding and poor quality of the photographs. The large and plentiful George Karger photographs have always been one of the features of the series and it has been a shame how the loss of the original printing materials has resulted in an undignified printing of this landmark publication. This edition has high production values (for example, coated paper stock and good photographic reproduction.) One of the most influential and inspirational collections of magic effects assembled in the 20th century. Many now classic effects appear here in their original form for the first time: Cutting the Aces, Spellbound, Flight of the Paper Balls, etc.

Originally issued as individual lessons at premium prices in the mid to late 1940s, then in 1961 re-issued as this bound book by Louis Tannen. First edition thus hard back binding in publisher's original blue cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back and front. 4to. 11½'' x 8¾''. Contains 168 pp with close-up monochrome photographs throughout. The boards have been crudely laminated leaving air bubbles under the laminate, else in Very Good condition, no dust wrapper as issued.
