Condition: Very Good. The Thames Tunnel, connecting Rotherhithe and Wapping, was a groundbreaking engineering feat designed by Marc Isambard Brunel and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel. It was the first tunnel successfully constructed beneath a navigable river, built using Brunel's pioneering tunnelling shield technology. Construction began in 1825, but the project faced numerous challenges, including flooding, financial difficulties, and hazardous working conditions. One of the most dramatic incidents occurred in January 1827, when the Thames broke through into the tunnel, forcing workers to evacuate. Despite setbacks, the tunnel was eventually completed in 1843 and became a pedestrian walkway and later a railway tunnel.
