Vorwort. Da seit dem Erscheinen von Benjamin Gottfried Weinarts Versuch einer Literatur der sächsischen Geschichte und Staatskunde ein volles Jahrhundert verstrichen war, so lag es nahe, daß die 1896 ins Leben gerufene Kgl. Kommission für sächsische Geschichte nach dem Vorbild von Wilhelm Heyds Bibliographie der württembergischen Geschichte ein ähnliches Werk in ihr Programm aufnahm. Bei der Langwierigkeit die Eigenheit der Arbeit wäre allerdings wohl das zunächst ausgesprochene Bedenken, keinen geeigneten Bearbeiter zu finden, berechtigt gewesen, wenn nicht die Generaldirektion der Kgl. Sammlungen für Kunst und Wissenschaft ihre Teilnahme Angeboten hatte. Unter dem Gesichtspunkte, daß eine Bibliographie der sächsischen Geschichte zugleich einen gedruckten Realkatalog der Saxonica der Kgl. Landesbibliothek darstelle, übernahm sie es, die Herstellung des Manuskripts zu bestreiten, während Druck Sache der Kommission blieb. Unter der Aufsicht eines vom jeweiligen Direktor der Landesbibliothek (erst Ge:eimer Hofrat Professor Dr. Schnorr v. Carolsfeld, seit 1907 Geheimer Regierungsrat Ermisch) geleiteten Ausschusses sammelte seit 1900 bis zu seinem Tode (12.Nov. 1910) 1: Viktor Hantzsch ungefähr 62000 Titel und versuchte ihre erste Ordnung nach einem :m Ausschusse beratenen und beschlossenen System. Seit Januar 1911 übernahm der Herausgeber die Sichtung, Vervollständigung und Ordnung des Materials sowie Vorbereitung und Leitung des Druckes. Die beiden ersten Punkte wurden durch den Umfang des Werkes bestimmt. Zeit- lich sollte es die Literatur bis zum Jahre 1910 umfassen, doch beschloß man noch in letzter Stunde, vom 2. Halbband des I. Bandes an möglichst bis zum Erscheinungsjahr zu gehen, wahrend für den 1. Nachdem nun auch der 2. Teilband der Bibliographie der Ortsgeschichte im Druck fertig vorliegt, sprechen die Herausgeber allen sächsischen Städten, die durch Geldspenden die Fortführung des Werkes ermöglichten, auch hier den verbindlichsten Dank aus. Zu den im Vorwort des 1. Teilbandes genannten Orten gesellte sich später noch Walde n burg mit einem größeren Betrage.
