Nachdem Rudtorffer (1760-1833) in den "Ruhestand getreten war, führte er noch die Aufstellung der Sammlung chirurgischer Instrumente und Verbände bei der Wiener Universität nach seinem Armament. chirurg. aus" Hirsch-Hübotter Rudtorffer, Franz Xaver Ritter von R., zu Wien, geb. daselbst 8. Febr. 1760, kam 1774 zu einem Chirurgen in die Lehre und besuchte zugleich Leber's Vorlesungen über Chirurgie und Anatomie und erhielt nach 3 Jahren den Freibrief. Er begann dann eingehendere Studien auf der Universität, wurde 1779 Magister der Chir. , Assistent bei Stoll und Saetohy am spanischen und Dreifaltigkeits-Spitale und erhielt bei Eröffnung des Allgem. Krankenhauses 1784 die Stelle eines Secundarwundarztes an demselben, ebenso wie die chirurg. Besorgung der Irren und die Ausführung der gerichtl. Ueber die Steinschnitt-Methode Pajola's, der persönlich nach Wien gekommen war, um dieselbe zu demonstriren, schrieb er: "Abhandl. über die Operation des Blasensteins nach Pajola's Methode" (Ib. 1808, 4., m. 5 Kpfrn; neue Aufl. 1817; 1818). In Folge dieser seiner Schriften erhielt er von der Universität Würzburg die Doctorwürde. Rudtorffer (1760-1833), "zu Wien, war daselbst am 8. Februar 1760 als Sohn eines Gewerbsmannes mit zahlreicher Familie geboren, sollte nach Bestimmung seines Vaters Wundarzt werden, trat demgemäß, nach dem Besuche des Jesuitengymnasiums bei einem Chirurgen in die Lehre, besuchte während seiner Lehrzeit auch die Vorlesungen des Professors Ferdin. v. Leber über Anatomie und Chirurgie und erlangte nach Verlauf von drei Jahren, 1777, den Freibrief. Er kehrte nun in das väterliche Haus zurück, um sich ungestört dem anatomisch-chirurgischen Studium zu widmen, wobei er sich namentlich der Unterstützung des Professors an der Universität Thomas Knauer, des Assistenten von Leber und des Joh. Brockmüller, Ordinarius im Bürgerspital, zu erfreuen hatte, indem es ihm durch deren Verwendung gestattet wurde, den häuslichen Ordinationen Leber's und den anatomischen Untersuchungen Knauer's beizuwohnen. Er besuchte auch die praktisch-chirurgische Lehranstalt in dem damals bestehenden vereinigten spanischen und heiligen Dreifaltigkeitsspitale, unter Professor Raphael Steidele, erlangte bereits zu Anfang des Jahres 1779 das Diplom als Magister der Chirurgie und wurde wegen seines Fleißes und Eifers noch in demselben Jahre zum Assistenten an dem genannten k. k. unirten Spitale ernannt. Nachdem er 1781 seine Assistentenstellung hatte aufgeben müssen, wurde er in dem 1784 eröffneten allgemeinen Krankenhause als Secundar-Wundarzt angestellt, auch mit der chirurgischen Besorgung der Irren und den gerichtlichen Leichenöffnungen betraut, der er eifrig bis zum Anfange des Jahres 1793 sich unterzog, wo er zum Primar-Wundarzt für die medicinischen Abtheilungen des Krankenhauses ernannt wurde. Im J. 1801 wurde ihm die Leitung der zweiten chirurgischen Abtheilung übertragen; er gab nun einen von vielen jungen Aerzten besuchten Privatuntericht über chirurgische Operationen und Verbände, den er indessen auf Befehl seiner mißgünstigen Vorgesetzten bald wieder einstellen mußte, bis er 1802 durch Regierungsdecret die Erlaubniß erhielt, ihn wieder aufzunehmen. Bald darauf erschien seine erste litterarische Leistung: "Ueber die einfachste und sicherste Operationsmethode eingesperrter Leisten- und Schenkelbrüche" (2 Thle., Wien 1805-1808 mit Kupf; neue Ausg. 1817), eine Arbeit, welche den von der Monikhoff'schen Gesellschaft zu Amsterdam ausgesetzten Preis erhielt und ins Holländische (1807) übersetzt wurde.
