Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Observation, Prediction and Simulation of Phase Transitions in Complex Fluids presents an overview of the phase transitions that occur in a variety of soft-matter systems: colloidal suspensions of spherical or rod-like particles and their mixtures, directed polymers and polymer blends, colloid--polymer mixtures, and liquid-forming mesogens. This modern and fascinating branch of condensed matter physics is presented from three complementary viewpoints. The first section, written by experimentalists, emphasises the observation of basic phenomena (by light scattering, for example). The second section, written by theoreticians, focuses on the necessary theoretical tools (density functional theory, path integrals, free energy expansions). The third section is devoted to the results of modern simulation techniques (Gibbs ensemble, free energy calculations, configurational bias Monte Carlo). The interplay between the disciplines is clearly illustrated. For all those interested in modern research in equilibrium statistical mechanics.…

27 x 21 cm, 152 blz., ill. volledig in kleur.

Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. 1st Edition. Hardcover: As New, jacket: As New, 32 x 25 cm, 214 + 232 + 240, Dutch, 1st Edition, illustrations, book condition: As New Very good condition, hard cloth binding with dust jacket, complete set, rare. Part 1: Life in Sint-Anna, H. Family, H. Magdalena (1987) This first part was written by Jaak A. Rau in collaboration with historian Marc Ryckaert. It focuses on the eastern and southeastern corner of Bruges' city center. Sint-Anna: This has historically been the working-class neighborhood of Bruges (the Sint-Anna quarters, linked to lace workers and the historical atmosphere around Guido Gezelle). The book highlights the unique transition from poverty to the later revaluation of the neighborhood. Holy Family: A relatively young parish within the old city walls, arising from the need to accommodate the strong population growth in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Holy Magdalena: Characterized by the surroundings of Astrid Park (the Botanieken Hof). The description here strongly focuses on the evolution of greenery, monastic communities, and the stately townhouses that adorn this parish. Part 2: Life in Sint-Salvator, Sint-Jacobs, Sint-Gillis (1988) For the second part, Jaak Rau teamed up with historian and city archivist Jan D'hondt. This book shifts the focus to the commercial, intellectual, and northern center of the city. Sint-Salvator: As the oldest parish church (and current cathedral), this forms the beating historical heart. The authors extensively describe the influence of the guilds, the wealthy merchants, and how the neighborhood around Steenstraat and the Markt evolved into a commercial center. Sint-Jacobs: Historically the parish of the wealthy foreign nations (such as the Florentines and the Spaniards) and the dukes of Burgundy (Prinsenhof). The book outlines the grandeur and later transformations of this monumental neighborhood. Sint-Gillis: The northern, quieter parish (the Sint-Gilliswijk). This part maps the history of the workers, craftsmen, houses of worship, and the specific parish connection that endured here well into the 20th century. Part 3: Life in O.-L.-Vrouw, Sint-Walburga, Sint-Pieters, Christus-Koning (1989) The concluding part of the trilogy was compiled with the well-known Bruges chief archivist André Vandewalle. This part includes both the most touristy cores and the more modern urban expansions. Our Lady: The neighborhood around the gigantic Our Lady's Church, closely linked to the lords of Gruuthuse and the Our Lady's neighborhood. The focus here is on the intertwining of religion, power, and early Bruges history. Sint-Walburga: Located in the chic, baroque Sint-Walburga neighborhood (the former Jesuit quarter). The book describes the aristocratic character of this neighborhood with its impressive mansions. Sint-Pieters & Christus-Koning: This chapter looks beyond historical boundaries towards northern expansion. While Sint-Pieters is a transition from countryside to industry (near the port), Christus-Koning is the prime example of an early 20th-century planned residential urban expansion with beautiful art deco and bourgeois architecture. Brugge Marc Van De Wiele 1986 Gebonden, linnen met stofomslag, 143pp., 25x31.5cm., rijkelijk geïllustr. in kleur en z/w., in goede staat (stofwikkel met lichte gebruikssporen, verder zeer goed). . ISBN 9069660164.
