Hardcover. First edition (& 1st printing). SF novel. One of three written by author Brown as ''Ras Ryman''. Robert Hale produced books primarily for the library market (still flourishing in the 1970s) and so most titles are very uncommon. The only edition of this title, and rare. Spotting along top page edges, else a fine copy i…n an almost fine dustjacket.

Folio. pp. Engraved frontispiece, title page and dedication; 35 steel engraved plates only [of 38], each with accompanying letterpress. The title and a couple of plate margins are foxed. Bound in modern half calf, retaining the original cloth sides and the contemporary attractive leather title piece to the front board. Appears t…o be as issued by the publisher, perhaps using only the plates that remained to him. This copy lacking the view of Merton College, the Front of Exeter College and the West View of Corpus Christie. The view entitled Front of Corpus Christie is different to that in the other copy which we have seen. The plates are engraved by George Hollis after John Chessall Buckler, T. Hollis and others. They include 29 fine full page views of the city and colleges. It is a rare work with some uncommon views of the colleges to which celebrated artists like T.S. Boys, Frederick Nash and J.S. Prout made relevant contributions. Inevitably broken for its plates, its scarcity was compounded by the weakness of the publisher's binding, here restored.
