Condition: Gut. pp. 214-217 From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of the ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the author. - Folded lengthwise, binding with strong marginal tears, text with a single tear on each page. - From the text: The papyri of which transcriptions are given below belong to my own small collection of Greek papyri (being Nos. 8 and 9) and ostraca (cf. Journal of Egyptian Archaeology, vol. XVII, 1931, p. 44) and were acquired during a visit to Egypt in 1910. Though they reflect rather conventional types, and though the former still presents some unsolved problems of reading and interpretation, I think the publication, put off so long, is desirable, and the lack of better may excuse my publishing them on this festival occasion, in a volume dedicated to the eminent Egyptologist now evdomikontoútis. - Wikipedia: Samson Eitrem (28 December 1872 8 July 1966) was a Norwegian philologist, an expert in ancient literature, religion and magic. Reprint, stapled. Condition: Gut. pp. 173-177. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With author's dedication. - A clean copy. - From the text: A haematite amulet against colic, belonging to the National Museum at Copenhagen and published in Symb. Osl., XIX, 76 f. (Fig. 2), has increased in interest since Campbell Bonner studied the type closely and on important points corrected my own interpretation, Harvard Theological Review, XXXV, 87 ff., XXXVII, 333 f. The place of origin of these amulets is Syria; the Michigan specimen discussed by Bonner derives from Aleppo and has been republished by P. R. Mouterde (Mélanges de lUniversité Saint Joseph, XXV (1942-43), 112, no. 20, see ib., pl. 7, no. 20): Dieu imberbe, nu, à g., debout sur une base moulurée; il porte une besace sur lépaule g. et dresse la droite. Au pied de la base, à g., aigle éployé tourné vers le dieu." - Wikipedia: Samson Eitrem (28 December 1872 8 July 1966) was a Norwegian philologist, an expert in ancient literature, religion and magic. Separatim Expressum. Condition: Gut. 87 p. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - With dedication by the editors. - Cover somewhat bumped, otherwise good and very clean. - From The Text by S. Eitrem and Leiv Amundsen: P. Osl. inv. no. 1413 comes from a small collection of Greek papyri which were purchased from the late Professor Carl Schmidt in Berlin 1933. The date of the texts ranges from the II. cent. B. C. to the IV. cent. A. D. Where place-names occur they point towards Oxyrhynchus, but the papyri form a mixed lot, and nothing can be definitely stated as to the origin of the individual pieces. A few of the texts have been published already: P. Osl. 87, 94, 157, 162, and 197. When acquired our present papyrus was in a very bad state of preservation. The fragments of which it consists had been pasted together, hap-hazard, so as to form a sheet more presentable for sale. The edges of some of the fragments look as if they were once cut by a pair of scissors, a circumstance that makes it the more difficult to coordinate the pieces. Between some of the fragments there seem to be considerable gaps. - From The Music by R. P. Winnington-Ingram: The text is provided with musical notes throughout. These notes are drawn exclusively from the so-called vocal notation. In addition there is a liberal use of rhythmical symbols in A, a more restricted use in B. The musical notes were obviously inserted after the text had been written; a different ink was used, but the hand may well have been the same. The writing is often extremely careless. The placing of the notes is for the most part fairly regular over the vowels or slightly to the left, but the position of the rhythmical symbols in relation to the notes varies considerably. There is also some variation in the size of the notes. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a detailed study of Menander's Colax (the Flatterer) and its contamination with Terence's Eunuch. The author provides new insights into the development of the parasite on the Athenian stage and in Greek literature on the whole and discusses single words as well as sense. The significance of the parasite on the Athenian stage is stressed and special emphasis is laid on the role of the parasite as a permanent danger to individuals as well as to society. The contamination in the Eunuch of Terence is closely investigated, as is the method of working for the Latin stage. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Separatim expressum. Condition: Gut. S. 32-45. - Wikipedia: Samson Eitrem (* 28. Dezember 1872 in Kragerø; 8.
