dj. First Edition. [Post-apocalyptic adventure] FIRST EDITION. Octavo (20 x 14cm), pp.230 [2]. Publisher's black cloth, white titles to spine. With the pictorial dust-jacket priced at 10s 6d to front flap. Lightly toned throughout but otherwise clean. Previous owner's signature in blue ink to front flyleaf, small Foyles label to pastedown. Top edge toned, lower edge lightly bumped. Toning to jacket, especially spine. Moderate shelfwear with some loss to jacket extremities. Very good. A gritty, realistic vision of how the world could end - to a virus that wipes out rice crops. Christopher doesn't terrify his reader with extraterrestrial threats or nuclear war but a slow famine that rapidly turns neighbours against each other.
