First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. J. M. La Grotta;John Steel; Randy Steffen (illustrator). 1st Edition. This offering is a set of three vintage copies of old illustrated westerns for children books. All three books are in very good condition and all are books in the Whitman Tell - a - Tale series . . . featuring a short story - colorful illustrations on each page and larger print. This set involves Roy Rogers. Roy Rogers at the Lane Ranch was written by (perhaps) J. M. La Grotta and illustrated by J. M. La Grotta. It was published by Whitman Publishing Co. in 1950 (or so) and appears to be a First Edition but is not specifically stated as such. Roy Rogers' Surprise for Donnie was written by Alice Sankey and illustrated by John Steel. It was published by Whitman Publishing Co. in 1954 and appears to be a First Edition but is not specifically stated as such. Roy Rogers and the Sure 'Nough Cowpoke was written by Elizabeth Beecher and illustrated by Randy Steffen. It was published by Whitman Publishing Co. in 1952 and appears to be a First Edition but is not specifically stated as such. All three books are books in Whitman's Tell - a - Tale series and are in very good condition - particularly for their age. None have dust jackets and none are ex-library copies. As you might guess - all three are somewhat rare. They're books in the popular Tell-a-Tale series and each is about 70 years old. Though none have dust jackets they ARE hard cover books with laminated pictorial boards. Each book is about 5 1/2" by 6 1/2" and has about 30 pages with colorful illustrations on each page as well as larger print and a nice story. They are still neat little books and ones that any cowboy or cowgirl child would enjoy while sitting on your lap . . . and having you help them read them. Thank you!

Cole, Carol and Cassidy: DOWNY WING AND SHARP EARS, Adventures of a Little Boy among little wild friends in Nature's Wonderland. Chicago: Goldsmith, 1928. Goldsmith does not indicate editions. Front blank flyleaf neatly removed, otherwise Fine hardcover, in a stunning wrap-around pictorial dustwrapper that has had its closed tears repaired with paper affixed to the back. A chain of fantasy short stories, not quite the Thornton Burgess sort of thing because the animals don't wear pants; but they all speak and form a woodland community Burgess-style. In the opening scene Eric, who has the secret ability to speak with animals, saves a captured goose whose fate was to be eaten by the boys' family, but is saved, setting off this series of adventures. A really charming book with excellent illustrations throughout by M. Sankey.

Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Charles Keene and M. Sankey (illustrator). First Thus. Hardback. Blackboards with gilt lettering. Author's Preface - A small portion of this tale appeared in Once a Week, July-Septemebr 1859, under the title of 'A Good Fight'. After writing it, I took wider views of the subject, and also felt uneasy at having deviated unnescessarily from the historial outline of a true story. These two sentiments have cost me more than a year's very hard labour, which I venture to think has not been wasted. After this plain statement I trust all who comment on this work will see that to describe it as a reprint would be unfair to the public and me. The English language is copious, and, in any true man's hands, quite able to convey the truth - namely, that one-fifth of the present work is a reprint, and four-fifths of it a new composition. (Charles Reade). Illustrations. 638 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).
