Zu seinen Studenten gehörte Hans von Schaper (1873-1945), aus dessen Besitz der Band stammt. v. Schaper studierte zunächst in Jena, wechselte dann nach Leipzig, wo er Vorlesungen u.a. bei Felix Klein hörte, bevor er 1898 als Assistent zu Hilbert nach Göttingen ging. Beide Schriften stammen wahrscheinlich von Schäffer (und nicht von einem seiner Studenten) und geben eine Zusammenfassung seiner Vorlesungsinhalte über Physik bzw. Elektrizität. Beide Schriften tragen keine Angaben zu Verlag und Erscheinungsdatum. Die "Vorlesungen über Physik" erschienen ursprünglich 1895, tragen aber den Besitzervermerk v. Schapers aus dem Jahr 1894; es ist möglich, dass Schäffer seinen Studenten Vorabdrucke überließ. Die "Vorlesungen über .
