"Über die Kontrastmitteldarstellung der Hirngefäße finden sich im deutschsprachigen Schrifttum eine Reihe ausgezeichneter Darstellungen. Bisher fehlt jedoch eine Würdigung der Serienangiographie als Funktionsprüfung des Hirnkreislaufes. Anhand der in vielen Einzelarbeiten des Schrifttums dargelegten Beobachtungen funktioneller Art und der über 4000 Serienangiographien des eigenen Krankengutes soll daher herausgestellt werden, welchen Beitrag die heutige Serienangiographie für die Beobachtung des menschlichen Hirnkreislaufes unter normalen und pathologischen Bedingungen zu liefern vermag. Dabei ist ein Eingehen auf die anatomischen und funktionellen Varietäten des Hirnkreislaufes und ein Vergleich mit den anderen am Menschen anwendbaren Untersuchungsmethoden unerläßlich. Auf eine kritische Darstellung der Methodik wie der Beeinflussung der Durchblutung durch Technik und Kontrastmittel ließ sich dabei nicht verzichten. Die seit 1952 routinemäßig an einem großen Krankengut durchgeführten serienangiographischen und gasanalytischen Untersuchungen waren in diesem Umfang nur in gemeinsamer Arbeit mit unseren Mitarbeitern R. A. Frowein, H. Gänshirt, Fj. Rausch, K. Schmalbach, K. Vetter, W. Walter und G. Udvarhelyi möglich. Die zusammen mit G. Struck durchgeführten Untersuchungen an cerebralen Gefäßerkrankungen stützen sich zu einem Teil auf das Krankengut der Univ.-Nervenklinik Köln, deren Direktor, Herrn Prof. Scheid, wir zu besonderem Dank verpflichtet sind. Ebenso herzlicher Dank gebührt Herrn Dr. med. habil. Bergerhoff, Köln, der nicht nur nach unseren klinischen Erfordernissen ein geeignetes Serienangiographiegerät entwickelt, sondern uns auch fortlaufend in allen technischen Fragen beraten hat.
