Beim Empfänger der Karte handelt es sich um den späteren Nachrichtenoffizier und Korvettenkapitän Hans Schimpf (1897-1935), der 1935 in Breslau unter ungeklärten Umständen tot aufgefunden wurde. Die verbreiteste Version zu seinem Tod ist, dass er wegen diverser Liebesaffäen von Reinhard Heydrich erpresst wurde und in Breslau erst seine Geliebte und dann sich selbst erschoss. Offiziell starb er bei einem Autounfall. Seine Leiche wurde in Berlin eingeäschert. Die Adresse in Esslingen bezieht sich auf die dortige "Villa Schimpf" in der Hans Schimpf aufwuchs. Der sich in Japan aufhaltende Freund bedankt sich für einen Brief, gratuliert, "daß das Examen gut vorübergegangen ist" und erläuert den abgebildeten Donnergott. Die Karte ist nicht unterschrieben. - Der Karte beigefügt ist eine hübsche, aquarellierte japanische Tuschfederzeichnung, die von einem Otto Kinz mit dem Gruß "Glückliches Neujahr! sowie mit einem roten Stempel mit den Initialen "O.K." im japanischen Stil versehen wurde. In Bleistift ist das Blatt nachträglich "1927" datiert. Der Poststempel beieht sich auf das Jahr 2 der Taisho-Ära (= 1913). - Karte an einer Ecke beschabt und mit kleiner Knickspur, Neujahrsgruß zweifach gefaltet und etwas abgegriffen.
