The 'collaboration' of the subtitle, between typographer Jack Stauffacher and Hermann Zapf, type designer, concerned the need for a display typeface to complement Spectrum as the text face for what became the Hunt Botanical Library. Zapf was commissioned to design the display face for the Library's exclusive use.

Cover illustration enlarged from a small wood-cut by Naoko Matsubara and printed from a line block for this prospectus. A wood engraving by Sister Margaret Tournour and a wood-cut by Inger Lawrence were printed from the wood. The author, a decorative artist, set out to find out why so many buildings today are white, looking for traces of 'lost colours' and their history.
