The author was an ophthalmologist and director of a hospital in Hungary during the late 1800s and early 1900s. During this time, ophthalmology was a growing field, with many new surgical techniques being developed. The author's papers describe various surgical procedures, including those to treat trachoma, a disease affecting the conjunctiva of the eye that was common in Hungary at the time. The book also includes discussions on the causes of blindness and the prevention of eye infections. It reflects the state of the art in ophthalmology at the turn of the 20th century and provides insights into the challenges faced by ophthalmologists during that era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Despite its prevalence, glaucoma's mechanism has been puzzling researchers for centuries, with treatment limited to the risky and invasive surgical option of iridectomy. The author, through meticulous analysis and case studies, proposes the use of pilocarpine eye drops as a reliable and far less invasive alternative to surgery. The work presents a trove of clinical experience, providing a detailed analysis of actual cases where the use of pilocarpine halted the onset of glaucoma and rendered iridectomies unnecessary. The book not only offers essential new insights into the nature of glaucoma but opens the door for a treatment that prioritizes the preservation of vision without the complications of surgery, significantly improving the quality of life for patients. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
