Für den objektiven Nachweis oder die kritische Ablehnung der von den Okkultisten behaupteten Tatsachen müßte es eigentlich unerläßlich sein, festzustellen, welchen Wert die üblichen Berichte über mediumistische Sitzungen haben. Ferner wäre zu untersuchen, ob Phänomene von der Art der in okkultistischen Sitzungen vorkommenden auch auf einem anderen natürlichen Wege, etwa durch die Geschicklichkeit eines Taschenspielers, hervorgerufen werden können.
