paperback. Condition: Ottimo (Fine). Spatia Books 1. Libro d'artista con fotografie in bianco e nero e testi dell'autrice in inglese, tedesco e italiano . Cm 21x15,5. pp. 34. . Ottimo (Fine). . Prima edizione di 1000 esemplari (First edition of 1000 copies). . Prima edizione di 1000 esemplari (First edition of 1000 copies). Book.

two 4p. booklets, plus 10 color plates (1 fldg.) w/ mus. nots., loose as issued in folio in green slipcase (Slipcase title: "Il Guarany Sinfonia). Beautiful signed prints done by Scliar (b. Brazil 1920) in homage to one of the greatest Brazilian composers, Carlos Gomes, composer of the symphony O Guarany. SIGNED AND NUMBERED EDITION NO. 72 /400. Carlos Scliar (Santa Maria, June 21, 1920 - Rio de Janeiro, April 28, 2001) was an outstanding draftsman, engraver, painter, illustrator, set designer, screenwriter and Brazilian graphic designer. He has participated constantly in exhibitions in Brazil and in all artistic centers worldwide, always registering absolute success. Social activist, he engaged in various movements, such as the First Democratic Youth Congress in Czechoslovakia and in Brazilian demonstrations, whether producing posters, or illustrating books and magazines. Gravure by choice, fell in love with serigraphy, in whose technique he developed several series. In fact, one of the important characteristics of Carlos Scliar was his ability to innovate, seeking new materials that would serve as a base and techniques ranging from tempering through acrylic to graphic arts. He painted paintings, but also made murals and even illustrated several tickets of the Federal Lottery, awarded with his art. He traveled to Paris in 1947, where he participated intensely in the movements for peace among peoples. His intention was to stay there forever, when he realized that, despite being the son of Jewish immigrants, his art was Brazilian. Besides France, he traveled to Italy, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Portugal and other countries, with his attention particularly focused on engraving and the graphic arts. Returning to Brazil, in the year 1950, he settled in Porto Alegre in search of his roots. Besides dedicating himself to painting and engraving, he began a new phase in his career, participating in activities in the press. He also participated in the creation of the Engraving Club of Porto Alegre, an embryo that spread throughout the country and even abroad. In Porto Alegre, he integrated the team that formulated the graphic feature of the magazine "Horizonte". In Rio and São Paulo, he participated in other graphic projects, such as the launch of "Senhor" magazine, of which he became an art director. In 1962 he founded Ediarte with Gilberto Chateaubriand, José Paulo Moreira da Fonseca, Michel Loeb and Carlos Nicolaievski. Signed.
