In the Summer of 1943, during the Quebec Conference, Canon Scott was invited by Churchill and Roosevelt to a private meeting where he read some of his poetry. Nicknamed "Holy Reggie" by his sailors, Sir Reginald Godfrey Otway Tupper (1859-1945) was a Royal Navy Officer of the late Victorian period who served in the First World War. He served in numerous significant commands and in 1915, following the outbreak of the First World War, he was given command of the patrol area around the West Coast of Scotland and subsequently took over command of the Northern Patrol in 1916 and was promoted to vice admiral. Tupper was promoted to admiral after the war and appointed Commander-in-Chief, Western Approaches based in Queenstown in Southern Ireland, a post he held through the Irish War of Independence.
