Condition: Very good condition. Lithograph by the French caricaturist 'SEM', Georges Goursat (1863-1934), who was recognized for his caricatures of socialites of the French Belle Epoque and of the people who served their fashion needs. He was active in the early years of the 20th century. The caricature depicts a bowler hat being produced through 'alchemy' by the famous Paris hat maker Gelot, located at the place Vendome. Gelot was the preferred hat maker of King Edward VII; his coat of arms is at the top of the image. The hat maker raises a domed cover or cloche to reveal a freshly produced black bowler hat, as steam billows in the background. One has the impression the hat was fashioned or cooked up through some instant proprietary process, and all the hat maker had to do was raise the lid to reveal his latest creation. The cloche was perfected by the French as a way of protecting tender plants. Lithograph with stenciled color, signed in the plate. Approximately 13 x 19 3/4".

Condition: Very Good. SEM (illustrator). Inscription addressed to Elaine Kane from Michel "Greg" Régnier as Achille Talon to front inside flap on Maxim menu (see images). Elaine was the wife of the famous Spiderman & Green Lantern illustrator Gil Kane, from whose estate this was obtained. 10.5 x 14.75 in (26.5 x 37 cm).
