Pharmacien major à vingt ans, attaché à l'armée d'Italie, Serullas fut professeur à Metz, à Paris et entra à l'Académie des Sciences en 1829 à la place du chimiste Vauquelin. Il venait d'être nommé professeur de chimie au Muséum quand il fut emporté par l'épidémie de choléra. On doit à Serullas d'importantes découvertes qui portent principalement sur le brome et le potassium. Serullas découvrit le protoiodure de carbone et l'iodure de cyanogène. Bel exemplaire à part quelques rousseurs.
