Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. The authoritative work covering Isaac Newton's early optical lectures as the newly appointed Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge." Lectiones Opticae" (Optical Lectures) was Newton's first extensive dissertation; this book, volume 1 of a proposed 3 volume project, covers the lectures presented at Cambridge between the years 1670-1672. These lectures were derived from Newton's early experimentation with prisms in the "miracle year" of 1665/66 at Woolsthorpe - the most productive year of Newton's legendary career. Those early findings were first revealed to the world in his "Theory About Light and Colours" whose first appearance was in Vol.VI of the" Philosophical Transactions" for 1671/72, Newton's first scientific publication (See my offering on this site). The Optical Lectures also served as the foundation for Isaac Newton's 2nd scientific masterwork, The "Opticks" of 1704. First edition; book and dj as new.
