Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Very Good. The original French edition (an English translation appeared in 1938, with fewer plates). Origjnal printed wraps 16 x 22cm. XIII + 94pp + 3 royal portrait plates + 4 folding plans (2 museum floor plans, and 2 churches) + 161 b/w photo plates (the English edition had only 97). Very good with creasing to corners, and minor loss to spine ends. The title page has a Kingdom of Egypt inkstamp (a crescent moon encircling three 5-pointed stars, topped by a crown), and previous owner's name, dated Cairo 1-1-47. Marcus Simaika Pasha (1864-1944) founded the Coptic Museum in 1908, and served as its Director until 1931, around when it was placed under the Department of Antiquities. He was inspired by Alfred Butler, author of "The Ancient Coptic Churches of Egypt", to whom this is dedicated.
