Transcription of the diaries and papers of Sir Edward Dering (1625-84), of Pluckley, Kent. The contents include the Parliamentary Diaries,1660 and 1675, the Personal Diary, 1675, the Account Books, 1680-84 and Miscellaneous Papers, 1644 to 1683. Dering, a royalist, graduated from Cambridge and married Mary Harvey, the niece of William Harvey. He served as one of the MPs for Kent, 1660-61, for East Retford, 1670-79 and for Hythe from 1679 and as a Commissioner of the Treasury, 1679-84. The notable London firm of P. S. King & Son, 'Publishers, Parliamentary and General Booksellers, Bookbinders and Printers', was in existence for more than a hundred years, having been established, according to its own account, in Parliament Street in 1819, and still active until 1941, when it became P. S. King and Staples, under which name it traded for around six years. (An advertisement for the Staples Press Limited in The Times, 14 February 1946, lists, among incorporated companies: 'P. S. The present collection, mainly consisting of correspondence addressed to the founder Philip Stephen King himself, is in fair condition, aged and with occasional damp staining (affecting in particular half a dozen items).
