xii, 362 pp. A few engraved text illustrations and 41 full-page engraved plates (3 double-page). Folio, old calf; but the binding is virtually destroyed. First edition. Small wormhole to the upper right (marginal) corner of the first two dozen leaves; marginal corner of one leaf torn away; light dampstaining to the lower margin of many leaves; serious dampstaining to the lower portion of about seven plates; serious foxing to five of them. The spine is split and the book is in two pieces; boards considerably worn. A candidate for washing and rebinding; or a reading copy.

Portrait frontispiece; 37 full and 4 double page copperplates (including 4 double-page) and 17 fine engravings in the text by Boitard. A clean and wide margined copy in contemporary full tree calf binding. Spine with red title label, lettered ruled and decorated in gilt. Spine ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Expertly re-cased with the spine laid down. Marbled endpapers. Some minor rubbing to the extremities but overall a very good and attractive copy.
