Sole edition. 8vo. xvi, 264 pp. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt lettered to spine and upper board, inscribed to Dr R.W.A. Salmond "with the Author's kind regards. March 1928" on the front free endpaper, with underneath a handwritten note from Spokes to Salmond dated March 8th, tipped in on the verso of the same leaf is a manuscript errata in Spokes' own hand and on his Castle Place, Lewes headed paper listing 7 textual faults, handwritten note to the front pastedown explaining that Salmond had gifted the book to the Sussex author R. Thurston Hopkins in 1940 and that he, in turn, had gifted the book to a James E. Martin ten years later (presumably in whose hand the ownership chronology is written), a further annotation by the subsequent owner stating that they had bought the book from Martin in 1971. 7 plates, a double page genealogy and other illustrations set into the text. Darkening to the spine, some light wear to the extremities and a little marking to the boards, foxing to the front and rear leaves, else very good.
