Notes, tableau de…s concordances, index et table des planches in fine. Exemplaire numéroté (1602/3000). Accompagné de 180 planches en couleurs hors-texte en pleine page. Traduction de Léa Marcou et la collaboration de Herbert Haupt, Thea Vignau-Wilberg, Eva Irblich. Reproduction pour partie du double codex min. 129 et 130 conservé à la Bibliothèque nationale de Vienne, l'exemplaire ici proposé regroupe 180 gouaches sur parchemin en partie réalisées par l'artiste peintre Daniel Fröschel (miniaturiste impérial, 1573?-1613) ainsi que Jacob Hoefnagel et Dirck de Quade van Ravesteyn. La première partie reproduit les animaux les plus courants (tigre, lynx, civette, licorne), la seconde partie rassemble des oiseaux familiers et exotiques (casoar, paradisier, cacatoès, flamand rouge). Rodolphe II de Habsbourg (1552-1612), empereur à 20 ans, fut réputé, non seulement pour son cabinet de curiosités -dénommé à l'époque Theatrum sapientiae ou Theatrum mundi-, mais aussi pour sa collection d'oeuvres artistiques -qui comptait des toiles de Dürer et Arcimboldo- ainsi que ses amitiés, au nombre desquelles, Tycho Brahé, Johannes Kepler. Les deux codex, dont sont ici issues les oeuvres dateraient des années 1600 - 1612. Exemplaire en très bon état, dos lég jauni. (poids 8kg, supplément demandé à l'envoi).
