Occasionally browned and with the first flyleaf detached from the book block, but a good and genuine copy. The essay is an editorial excerpt from the… volume LXII, series III, of the Academy of Agriculture, Arts, and Commerce of Verona.First and only edition of this interesting and rare paleontological study on the stone settlements on Monte Faedo in Verona. The excavations conducted by Stefano De Stefani in 1885 on the ancient stone huts of Monte Loffa in Sant'Anna del Faedo revealed an important prehistoric settlement, dating primarily to the Bronze and Iron Ages. This pioneering research led to the discovery of dwellings and stone, bronze and ceramic artefacts, making a significant contribution to Veronese palaeontology and to our understanding of protohistoric dwellings in use in that area between the Late Bronze Age and the Iron Age.Stefano De Stefani was first and foremost a chemist and botanist. It was only in his later years that he turned to the study of paleontology, a field in which he gained renown in scientific circles throughout Italy. He earned his degree in pharmaceutical chemistry in 1841 from the University of Padua. In 1856, he joined the large group of Veronese naturalists with whom he founded the Ibis Society, which aimed to popularize science among the lower classes of Verona's population. The topics addressed and published ranged from geology and paleontology to chemistry and medicine, from literature to painting, from poetry to tea cultivation. Stefano De Stefani was also a pioneer in prehistoric studies in the Verona area and a leading figure in the earliest research on Lake Garda and the Lessinia region, which he investigated systematically, identifying and documenting hundreds of previously unknown lithic sites. His archaeological investigations are also closely linked to the history and activities of the early years of the Verona Civic Museum.Italian Union Catalogue, LO1\0809379. Book.

Lo Specchio del Disinganno per conoscere la deformita del moderno costume, diviso en sei veglie tra D.Gile Parocco, e Proba Gentildonna. Venice, Simone Occhi, 1752. 4to. 128p. Small historiated woodcut initial at beginning of preface; engraved title vignette servi…ng as printer's device. Publisher's wrappers, stained; margins untrimmed. A comprehensive discussion of all aspects of Cicisbeism by an academician and abbot of Sezze, who condemns contemporary gallant customs, and especially attacks the nobility for their assiduous pursuit of them. The polemic is set in the form of a dialogue between an 'honest' gentlewoman confessing to her parish priest, Don Gile. The lady timidly defends current fashions, while the priest scornfully examines the authority of various texts, concluding that it was morally impossible to indulge in Cicisbeism without committing a sin. 30 chapters include : when it is wicked for a priest to talk with women, scandals resulting from relationships, wantonness, morning visits, custom of dressing a lady, lady and her cicisbeo in a carriage, custom of offering the arm to a lady, balls and their evils. Only a Naples 1766 edition is recorded in Italian libraries. Traces of waterstaining in right margins, a few tears in outer edges. Leaf D2 repaired in one place without loss.
