Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. NEW UK HARDBACK. SIGNED by DAVID HERTER & STEPHEN BAXTER [NO Inscription]. LIMITED Ed. #21/300. DJ in Clear, ARCHIVAL MYLAR WRAP. NO remainder mark. "In Brno, Czechoslovak Republic, 1931. Eight years before the Nazi invasion. At the Theater on the Ramparts, a pe…rformance of the world-famous robot play R.U.R. is in rehearsal, attended grudgingly by its author, Karel Capek. A former master of science fiction, Capek now devotes himself to the here-and-now, writing small works vital to his beloved Republic. He finds little real pleasure in the proceedings but for the contributions of his brother Josef, a renowned avant-garde artist, and Pavel Haas, a disciple of the late eccentric composer, Maestro Leo J . Yet in the midnight streets of the city, Haas has found a luminous enigma; or rather, it has found him, floating down out of the starry sky. Once activated it carries Haas, as well as the Brothers Capek, the actors, robots and musicians, into a nightmarish world of Occupation, of immense devastation and fecund marvels, of dire transports East, setting in motion a terrifying siege and a phantasmagorical night journey leading from the Theater on the Ramparts to the lonely and now-forgotten cottage of Leo J . Featuring deep, loving portrayals of the Brothers Capek, and of Pavel Haas, who died at Auschwitz, The Luminous Depths - sequel to the superb novella On the Overgrown Path - lights a dark corner of Europe between the Wars." | SHIPS AIRMAIL INTERNATIONALLY. JW Consignment. Shelved above Case 7/8. The Revelation Space series is a book series by Alastair Reynolds that follows a fictional human history from 2,200 AD to approximately 40,000 AD. Notable for being a more "hard" science than many other science-fiction works, prominently not including the faster-than-light travel common in many other science-fiction stories. It is this universe that acts as the setting for a majority of Alastair Reynolds' novels and short-stories. The Inhibitor Sequence consists of Reynolds' first 3 novels "Revelation Space", "Redemption Ark", and "Absolution Gap" from 2000-2003, completed in 2021 with "Inhibitor Phase". Much of the Revelation Space series as a whole takes place around the original trilogy from 2000-2003. This collection contains only the original trilogy. "Chasm City" was released between "Revelation Space" and "Redemption Ark" in 2001. "Chasm City" takes place in the titular city, which is a major nexus within the wider Revelation Space universe. "Galactic North" is a collection of most of Alastair Reynolds' short stories and novellas set in the Revelation Space universe released in 2006. Around 8 stories are told in relatively chronological order from "Great Wall of Mars" set in 2,200AD going to "Galactic North" set in 40,000 AD. "Diamond Dogs" is a novella by Alastair Reynolds released in 2001. Set in the 25th century, it plays on the classic science-fiction plot of the deadly maze. 1383372. Shelved Dupont Bookstore. First UK Edition, First Printing, Limited Edition #229/400.
