NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. Black and white illustrations throughout, with some in colour [From front jacket flap] THIS IS the story of the first hundred years of Sherwood Forest Golf Club, which began life at the Mechanics Institute, Mansfield, in 1895. The club has been blessed with one noble benefactor, the sixth Duke of Portland, with leaders of vision such as Sir John Houfton and Jack Bingley and, most importantly, with fine golfing terrain that was so expertly modelled into a great course by the immortal James Braid. These people, plus many other characters and fine players - and even a renowned libel case - have made it a colourful century. LES STEVENSON joined Sherwood Forest Golf Club in December 1968 and was co-opted on to the handicap committee in 1972. Except for a two-year break between 1982 and 1984 he has served continuously on that committee, and is truly Sherwood's Mr. Handicap. He has also been a member of the club's management committee for two spells - 1976 to 1982 and 1989 into centenary year. DON WOODWARD became a member at Sherwood Forest on returning to his native Nottingham after working for 31 years with the Daily Express, where he became executive sports editor.
