"General Tom Thumb" was Charles Stratton (1838-1883), a little person from Bridgeport, Connecticut, who became the one of P. T. Barnum's biggest talents and one of the 19th-century's most beloved celebrities. The present edition is updated with American press accounts of Stratton's 1847 return from his recent first European tour and visits to Washington, D.C., Richmond, Baltimore, and Philadelphia.
