Am Beispiel des Deutschen wird gezeigt, dass dem sem…antischen Begriff der Attribution eine klare morphosyntaktische Entsprechung gegenübergestellt werden kann. Alle komplexen Attributionsausdrücke des Deutschen sind satzwertig. Der Kopf dieser CP-wertigen Strukturen ist die attributive Flexion (traditionell: Kasus, Genus und Numerus, KGN): Die vorgebliche Kongruenzflexion wird damit einer gänzlich neuen Funktion zugeführt, die sie als Menge von Sondenmerkmalen beschreibt. Aufgabe dieser KGN-Sonde ist es ausdrücklich nicht, die Kongruenz mit dem modifizierten Nomen auszudrücken. Vielmehr identifiziert sie in ihrer Domäne ein Argument, das die nötigen Kasus-, Genus- und Numerus-Merkmale aufweist und implementiert die koreferentielle Lesart dieses Arguments mit dem modifizierten Nomen. Unterschiede zwischen APen, Partizipialattributen und Relativsätzen lassen sich ohne weitere Zusatzannahmen zurückführen auf Unterschiede der jeweils verketteten lexikalischen Elemente, insbesondere auf die Einbettung phi-defektiver bzw. phi-vollständiger Prädikationen. Das Ergebnis der Analyse wird in einen weiteren Rahmen gestellt: Als vierte satzwertige Konstruktion des Deutschen vervollständigt die Attribution eine Kreuzklassifikation von sogenannten Referenztypen: Der Unterscheidung von Haupt- und Nebensatz-CP für die Referenz auf Mengen von Indizes wird die Unterscheidung von DP und Attributionsstruktur für die Referenz auf Mengen von Individuen gegenübergestellt: Selbstständig referentielle Ausdrücke (Matrix-CP und DP) realisieren uninterpretierbare Merkmale von V bzw. N in ihrer Kopfposition, restringierende Ausdrücke füllen die Position mit subordinierenden Elementen, nämlich C bzw. KGN.
