An extremely rare inventory of works available for readers in the literary cabinet of the bookseller Clémandot in Le Puy. Reading rooms were established at the end of the eighteenth-century in the absence of public libraries. By paying a subscription readers could have access to numerous literary novelties. The office of Clémandot, rue du Collège, Sect. D. No. 205, in Le Puy, consisted of more than 4000 volumes in French; nothing, according to Clémandot, is "contraire aux moeurs ou à la religion"; the various subscription fees are advertised with a reduction by half, that is to say eighteen francs for the whole year, etc. No other copy located.
