Blind-stamped green cloth, spine titled in gilt. End-papers browned and annotated but a very good copy. "Mr. Tait wrote, professedly, in a style which was calculated to appeal to the layman even more than to the lawyer. I think his work lost some value as a legal text-book from this, by reason of a certain lack of that precision and orderly arrangement which a work of reference should have, and accordingly I have attempted to remedy this, without entirely abandoning the original author's idea." Taylor revised and rearranged Tait's original material in order to include a great many laws which had come into force since the first edition. Tait had kept his prose to the point by only referring in passing to statutes, which he included in a 200 page appendix for reference. Taylor has included pretty well the whole of this material, in paraphrase, into the body of his discussion itself. "Part III (Sea Fisheries) is an entirely new departure. Mr. Tait did not deal with this subject, and in fact there has been no Scottish text-book on Sea Fishery law since .Stewart on Fishings (1892), in which the treatment of it was somewhat cursory. This part has been a considerable undertaking, as there were some forty statutes extending over more than a century, to be digested and arranged." . …
