Met haar geabstraheerde beelden, cameraloze experimenten, grafis…che en contrastrijke foto's vindt Embo aanvankelijk naadloos aansluiting bij de Subjektive Fotografie van Otto Steinert, waarbij het experimenteren met puur fotografische technieken in dienst stond van de persoonlijke expressie. In de jaren 1960 ondergaat haar werk een inhoudelijke koerswijziging: van 'artiste photographe' naar 'photographe d'artistes'. Ze raakt bevriend met Cobra-kunstenaar Pierre Alechinsky, trouwt met beeldhouwer Reinhoud d'Haese en woont met hen samen in de kunstenaarscommune La Bosse ten noordwesten van Parijs. Naast haar eigen artistiek werk richt Embo haar lens op de internationale kunstscene (o.a. Pierre Alechinsky, Christian Dotremont, Corneille Hannoset, Karel Appel, Pol Bury, Andre Breton, Jacques Ledoux, Felix Labisse?). Ze maakt informele en intieme portretten, fotografeert kunstenaars tijdens hun creaties, werkt samen aan projecten en documenteert vernissages, events, theater- en dansvoorstellingen.
