Vintage borderless photograph of writer Vladimir Nabokov stepping out of the Montreux Palace Hotel in Montreux, Switzerland, circa 1970s. Nabokov and his wife Vera lived in the Montreux Palace for the last 17 years of Nabokov's life. Vera continued to reside in the hotel until her death in 1990. Er lerntesein Handwerk als Fotograf in Deutschland und dann an der Schule für Fotografie in Vevey. Seit 1960 bis zu seinem Tod im Jahr 2005 hat er nur Porträts fotografiert und die Gesichter von Hunderten zahlloser Persönlichkeiten aus der Welt der Kunst und der Literatur verewigt. Seine wohl wichtigsten Porträts waren die der Maler Picasso, Dalí und Kokoschka, der Filmgrössen Ustinov, Sophia Loren und Coward, der Schriftsteller Nabokov, Fleming und Simenon, der Dirigenten Pierre Boulez und Igor Stravinsky. Diese prestigeträchtige Namen erhalten durch die über all die Jahre gleichbleibende hohe Qualität seiner Arbeit einen noch höheren Stellenwert: Seine besondere Aufmerksamkeit galt dem zu Porträtierenden, indem er die Seele und den Charakter der Person zu erfassen suchte. Diese Publikation ist die erste über die fast 50-jährige Arbeit von Horst Tappe. Sie soll die Qualität und die Vielfalt seiner Porträts aufzeigen. Eine wohl einmalige und wunderbare Galerie von besonderen Persönlichkeiten. Horst Tappe hat in 50 Jahren ein Gesamtkunstwerk mit 1000 Porträts von Malern, Schriftstellern, Schauspielern, Staatspräsidenten und Musikern geschaffen.- Jaeckle (1909-1997) studierte Philosophie und Germanistik und promovierte 1937 an der Universität Zürich über Rudolf Pannwitz. Er arbeitete zunächst als Lektor beim Atlantis Verlag und heiratete 1941. Von 1943 bis 1971 war er Chefredaktor der Tageszeitung «Die Tat», dazu von 1962 bis 1977 Redaktor der Kulturbeilage «Literarische Tat». Er gehörte zum Kern der Zürcher «Freitagsrunde» ? einem von 1942 bis 1965 bestehenden Literaturzirkel ?, zusammen mit Ernst Howald, Eduard Korrodi, Walther Meier, Max Rychner und Emil Staiger.1937 wurde er Mitglied beim neu gegründeten Landesring der Unabhängigen, für den er von 1942 bis 1950 im Gemeinderat von Zürich (1945 als dessen Präsident) und von 1947 bis 1962 im Nationalrat war. 1100 gr.
