Unlettered glossy white soft-back with coloured illustation to front, intehral wraparounds; unworn but hints of ingrained dustiness to back. f/piece photo + t.p. + 40 + (2, blanks, for Notes), unpaginated central block of 108 monochrome 59 images and catalogue. Internally fine. I must say Solomon's long essay has passages very reminiscent of Private Eye's 'Pseuds Corner' column. 18 cm x 19 cm.

Published to accompany the exhibition 'American Painting Now' at Horticultural Hall in Boston, 15 December 1967 to 10 January 1968. Very good. Front cover is creased along front edge with a very short tear. Light rubbing to rear cover. Crease to top corners of cover and title-page. Otherwise neat and internally clean copy.

With four 8" x 10" B&W glossy photos from the book laid in; George Segal's "Couple at the Stairs"; Andy Warhol in his studio; Marcel Duchamp in his Manhattan apartment; and Lee Bontecon, relaxing in her studio ( first 3 photos Fine, last photo small faint spot bottom margin and faint bottom corner crease). The book is Near Fine, small prior owner name 2nd front end page, slight bowing to boards. In a Very Good dust jacket, 1/4" chip across head and 1 1/2" chip base of spine, narrow chip at top edge front flap fold, several small closed edge tears. Original photographs from this New York collection are uncommon at auction.(RBH). While these four are not originals, they would be striking framed as a set.

March 2, 1973) was an Italian photographer noted for his portraits of artists and his street photography. Mulas began his studies in law in 1948 in Milan, but left to take art courses at the Brera Fine Arts Academy. In 1954 he was asked to cover the Venice Biennale, his first professional assignment. He went on to photograph every Venice Biennale through 1972 and to document his work in an art book. Mulas worked for a number of Italian magazines and did commercial work for advertising campaigns including clients such as Pirelli and Olivetti. In 1959 in Florence, Mulas discovered Veruschka who later became a well-known model and artist. While covering the Spoleto Festival in 1962, Mulas befriended sculptor Alexander Calder, who later became a major subject of Mulas' photography and writings. While photographing the 1964 Venice Biennale, Mulas met several American artists, art critics, and the art dealer Leo Castelli. This meeting led to his travel to New York City and his documentation of the Pop art scene. This trip to New York and Mulas' resulting book and exhibits, New York, the New Art Scene became Mulas' best known work. The exhibit included enlargements of Mulas' contact sheets and environmental portraits of Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Barnett Newman and Roy Lichtenstein.
