Signature from title page to page 2 of text is loose and laid in whole (holding together but loosening) -- inner hinge badly cracked there. Page block edges darkened/soiled. Small tear in paper at rear inner hinge. Large dampstain to plates between pages 262 and 263. A record of summer rambles in the UK with particular reference to horse, sheep and pig breeders. 471pp. Scuffing to spine which has gilt titles, small dent to inside edge of rear cover and minor foxing to outer edge of pages and to front and rear endpapers. The title-page states that this edition has been revised and re-edited with steel engravings; in practice there are only two engravings, one of Henry Handley to the frontispiece protected by a tissue-guard and a second of John Grey of Dilston to the page facing the frontispiece which in effect is a reproduction of the title-page to the original edition. A previous owner's name in pencil to the front endpaper which begins "Henri de.", the surname being possibly "Monbrison".
