Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl instrumental rock 'n roll LP, identified to jacket as Liberty BLP-2003, and dark blue Bolton labels (with logo to left) also read BLP-2003, near-mint vinyl in a very-good cardboard jacket with a small sticker pull to top right. (The boys tumble to the floor as the undernourished cover model walks by.) Presumably again standing upright, the lads offer (of course) jazz guitarist Johhny Smith's "Walk Don't Run," Bill Doggett's "Honky Tonk," Ellington's "Caravan," Santo & Johnny Farina's "Sleep Walk," Bill Justis' "Raunchy," even Max Steiner's "My Own True Love' (Tara's Theme)" -- plus a couple of originals. This dark-label variant is the 1963 mono second issue, not the 1960 "first pressing," which bore lighter blue labels with dolphins to top. Reduced from $14.

Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl instrumental rock 'n roll LP, identified to jacket as Liberty LST-8003, but to disc labels as United Artists Records LST-8003, near-mint vinyl in a near mint cardboard jacket (the boys showing off their stylish late-'60s hairstyles to BOTH front and back covers) which has been opened but still wears its original shrink-wrap. The lads offer jazz guitarist Johnny Smith's "Walk Don't Run" (of course), Bill Doggett's "Honky Tonk," Ellington's "Caravan," Santo & Johnny Farina's "Sleep Walk," Bill Justis' "Raunchy," even Max Steiner's "My Own True Love" (Tara's Theme)" -- plus a couple of originals. Obviously, this is not the Dolton 1960 original, nor even the Dolton 1963 re-release. There were actually two 1970 Liberty re-releases; this is the slightly more valuable one with a new back as well as a new front jacket cover. Why it bears tan "United Artists Records" labels displaying the Liberty catalog number we have no idea -- though admittedly they were both part of "Transamerica" by this point. (UA is generally reported to have issued Ventures product only from 1971 -- when the Liberty label went into eclipse -- through 1977. The Liberty label then resurfaced under new ownership in 1978, and officially supplanted UA under EMI ownership from 1980 to 1984 . . . for those who really care.) Reduced from $15.

Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl instrumental rock 'n roll record, Liberty LST-8055, near-mint vinyl in a near-mint "trippy" cardboard jacket (by Wayne Kimbell) which has been opened but still wears its original shrink-wrap. Along with Liberty LST-8052 (which was brazenly dubbed "The Ventures Super Psychedelics"), this would appear to have been the instrumental foursome's main "venture" into psychedelia, pretty well demonstrating that . . . The Ventures weren't really into psychedelia. 8052 did offer "Strawberry Fields," which was indeed psychedelic, along with covers of The Turtles' "Happy Together," The Five Americans' "Western Union," and The Monkees' (actually Neil Diamond's) "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You" -- which were fun tunes, mind you, but more along the lines of . . . Bubble gum. While here we do get "Mighty Quinn (Quinn the Eskimo)", "Summertime Blues," and "Cry Like a Baby" . . . along with some numbers that were never hits in any universe near us (and yes, in 1968 we were paying attention.) "Love Shower"? "Soul Coaxing"? "Innermotion Faze"? (Shockingly enough, some of these may actually be Ventures ORIGINALS.) By '69, on the rarely seen disc "Underground Fire," they did finally get around to covering "Born To Be Wild," "Sunshine Of Your Love," "Light My Fire," and Janis' "Down On Me." But the lads in the pastel sweaters never seem to have gotten around to tackling "Pictures of Matchstick Men," "White Rabbit," "Eight Miles High," "Whiter Shade of Pale," or just about anything by Jimi Hendrix. Which is OK, really. After all, Don Wilson was born in 1933; the late Bob Bogle in 1934 -- let's have a little respect for our elders, here. They could sure do a job on "Pipeline," though, couldn't they? Reduced from $17.

Circular white sticker to jacket front panel reads "this album contains 'No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In.)'" Closely tracking the 1965-1966 pop charts, we also find here The Knickerbockers' "Lies," the Playboys' "She's Just My Style," (though whether Gary Lewis' songwriting credit meant any more than his standard vocalist credit is unclear -- Producer Snuff Garrett reported that he had session singer Ron Hicklin overdub Lewis "till he sounded like Mario Lanza") and of course The McCoys' "Hang On Sloupy."
